I’d had a really bad night and was on my way to work, still feeling the emotional aftershocks, along with the shame and frustration of having engaged in various “unhelpful behaviours” that I had been trying to stop.
I texted my friend saying how I was feeling, and felt that the day was ruined as a result of having had such a bad night.
But she replied “just because there’s a storm doesn’t mean you have to strip of and run around naked in it. You can still put on your hat, coat, boots and grab an umbrella, and say ‘yes, there’s a storm, but I’m going to do the best I can to stay safe and warm’ and you can wait until the storm passes. Because it will”.
And for some reason what she said resonated with me to the extent that it did make me feel I had some protection to cope with the aftermath of my bad night. And that’s the inspiration behind this picture.
