Alexithymia In BPD: Often I Don’t Know What I’m Feeling!

I wrote this piece, recently published by The Mighty, very early on in therapy. It’s about a little talked about symptom where people struggle to recognise and name their own emotions. For me, this was a profound and debilitating part of my BPD/C-PTSD and was a major barrier to me accessing help for a long time. Because it is almost impossible to verbalise something for which you have no words.

I later learned that it’s called “alexithymia”…
